Head Chef

Colac Area Health is a unique integrated health service comprising of over 500 employees, providing Acute Care, Aged Care, Community and Allied Health Services to a catchment population of approximately 30 000. Situated in the Colac Otway Shire, one of the most picturesque Victorian municipalities that provides city conveniences with a country charm.
As a result of our commitment to Quality Patient Centred Care we are now seeking to enhance our food services to our residents, patients and staff.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and talented Head Chef to take ownership of the kitchen and all food service operations. The role of Head Chef is key to establishing and delivering a high standard and consistent quality of all menu items and kitchen operations.
Reporting to the Executive Director People and Place, you will have proven experience in a high end fast-paced kitchen along with providing team leadership. With a commitment to high standards of kitchen and food preparation, plating and cleanliness. It is essential that you have a positive management approach and commitment to complying with Colac Area Health’s Food Safety Plan and associated standards is crucial to this role.
This role offers the opportunity to:
- Ensure the safe provision of food as per Colac Area Health’s Food Safety Plan
- Oversee and manage the guidance and work of the Food Services staff including:
- Food Safety Program
- WHS Management
- Staff Rosters
- Staff Performance Management
- Supplies and Orders
- Accreditation Standards
- Produce high quality, cost effective and nutritious meals for all users of CAH Food Service
- Manage the layout design and ensure the optimum functioning of the kitchen
- Respond to changes and skill staff in best practice food handling
- Identifying industry trends and delivering seasonal menu updates and refinements
You’ll be perfect for this role if you have:
- Trade Qualification, Certificate of Cooking or equivalent. (minimum Cert III in Commercial Cooking).
- Demonstrated experience in a health or commercial setting including bulk cooking or a similar role.
- Have a well-developed understanding of the concepts of nutrition, cooking with consideration of special dietary requirements, food related allergies and intolerances.
- Ability to lead and manage an efficient team with an ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
- Have well developed communication and interpersonal skills with strong problem solving focus.
- Strong customer service ethic with a patient centre approach.
- Demonstrate an ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with periodic demands.
