Position Summary

Child and Family Counsellor

Permanent Part Time – 24 hours per week 

 

Colac Area Health is a values based organisation providing a unique integrated health service comprising of over 500 employees, providing Acute Care, Aged Care, Community and Allied Health Services.

 

The Child and Family Counsellor provides a range of services to children 5-12 years and their families. This position will work under a trauma informed care model to provide a framework based on knowledge and understanding of how trauma affects people’s lives and their individual need for support.

This role will incorporate assessment of the child and family and intervention may include childrens counseling, family therapy and systemic interventions which are child focussed and family centred and will be adaptive and responsive to the diversity of needs of children and their families. 

 

What’s required? 

  • Related tertiary qualifications to the role, (eg/ Social Work/Welfare/Psychology/Counselling) or equivalent experience and training
  • Current Driver's Licence and Working with Children Check
  • Experience of undertaking assessment and therapy with children, young people, and their families. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands
  • Ability to relate and communicate comfortably with people from different socio- economic and cultural backgrounds
  • An understanding of issues related to social, economic, and structural factors which contribute to disadvantage for children, young people, and their families.
  • Familiarity and experience in delivering a range of family focused counselling therapies (eg/ Child, Adolescent and Family Therapies).
  • Experience and understanding of group work programs and interventions for children, young people, and their families, particularly those who have experienced trauma.
